We Here at the Lookout Fire Company #1 know that during this time of year with all the events everyone has going on during  the Christmas season, from baking cookies, to decorating the house and Christmas tree. Therefore that is why we have come up with some easy  to remember Christmas season safety tips. To ensure that everyone has a happy and safe Christmas season spent with family and friends. For every year there are over 400 lives claimed by fire during this time of year and millions dollars of damage. So to ensure that this doesn't happen to you and your loved ones here are some great tips regrading decorations, Christmas trees, candles, and lights.

Christmas Tree:

  •   Selecting A Fresh Tree: When picking a tree make sure that the needles on the tree are green and hard to pull back from the branches.
  • Care of the Tree: Keep Tree away from heat sources, specially fire places. The heat can dry out your tree and make it more valuable to being ignited. And make sure to always keep the stand filled with water at all times.
  • Disposing of the Tree: Never put any part of the tree in a fireplace of wood stove. Dispose of it by place it out to be picked up by the garbage service or taking it to a recycling center.
Holiday Lights

  • Maintain Holiday Lights: Check for Frayed Wires, bare spots, gaps in the insulation, broken sockets or excessive kinking before putting them up. Also only use lighting listed for there operate use
  • Do Not Over Load Electrical Outlets!   By over loading outlets with holiday decorations and Lights you run a higher risk of over heating electrons and electrical shorts to occur, which runs a great case of starting a fire
Holiday Decorations

  • Use Only Nonflammable Decorations: Make sure that your decoration are either flame retardant and place away from heat sources/ vents, or nonflammable.
  • Artificial Christmas Trees: If using these types of trees, make sure it is flame retardant and keep it away from all heat sources and open flames
We here at the Lookout Fire Company #1 hope that these tips will help make your Christmas season a merry and safe time for you and all that gather with you over this time. Also , always remember to have working smoke alarms and in a case of an emergency to CALL 9-1-1 and in a case of a fire to make sure to get everyone out of the house and to stay out!
